Yesterday I started going up 5 pounds on the bench every time I lift. I don’t go up if I don’t make all the reps. 160# was pretty easy. I could probably go up 10 pounds but what’s the rush? I also started doing unassisted dips yesterday. They have a machine you can counterweight but that seems silly.
Today I finish the upper body and will do a walk. I’d rather not walk on days I lift, but that’s impossible when I lift 5 days. Lots of rain coming so I’ll have to work around that. I’m not a winter person. More of a spring person and I can’t wait. I’m going to have a big garden this year. Start early with different kinds of lettuce. Then all kinds of stuff after Easter.
Happy new year

I think the main thing is to make a commitment in your mind that you are going to workout X amount of times a week and stick to it. And I think it’s possible to convince yourself that you enjoy it. My main problem is staying motivated once it gets hot.
I did legs today and some sit ups in the weighted chair. No squats though. It was busy. I can do a few at the end of my workout on Friday.
So at least I’m not totally out of shape to start the NEW year. The important thing is not to blow off the walk tomorrow. And the Georgia game starts at one. I figure we’ll beat them pretty good. And hopefully Stafford and Moreno will be back next year now that they don’t have to worry about the rookie salary cap.
Day One

I plan on this being a fitness journal just for my own benefit. I like to exercise and I’m usually pretty good about it early in the year. It gets hot and I get the summer blues. Then comes Thanksgiving followed by Christmas. Followed by another spring effort. I hope to break the cycle and keep it up all year.
So today I began. With just a two and a half mile walk. My first long walk in a while. Yesterday I worked out with weights. I’ll go back to the gym and finish my upper body workout today. I benched 155#. Three sets of eight. Pretty pathetic but at least I’m not starting from scratch. I do two upper body workouts one week and two lower body workouts the next week. While doing one of the other on the non-two days. Pretty much a Body for Life plan except I like to break the upper into two days. So really 4 days some weeks.
For the first couple of weeks I’ll focus on walking. Later I’ll get going on the ellipse and bike riding. Maybe a few hikes thrown in.
I guess I should do some mat work like yoga or Pilates or both. That’s the part I’m not very fond of doing. But I think it would be good if I did.
Hello world!
